Attempted clarification :
... and there seems to be a recursive failure {with apport}.
 That is; It crashes when it tries to read (?) the the /var/crash file from the installation that points at the JDK.
 Clearing /var/crash of the jdk and apport crashes seems to leave a system that runs clean.
