Bug Description

Binary package hint: tvtime

Since I'm out luck here!

In 8.10 tvtime worked very well.

In 9.04 no luck beacuse DRI is disabled (Bug #367546 )

Now this.

tvtime -v

*** If unsure, please check with your distribution to see if your

same error here on i865.

I tried with xorg-edger's ppa (2:2.9.0+git20091026.10946118-0ubuntu0tormod) and I get the same error. However, rollbacking to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.4 resolves the issue (ppa: http://ppa.launchpad.net/siretart/ppa/ubuntu).

Hi ceap80,

Thanks for including the attached files. Could you also include your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (or Xorg.0.log.old) from after reproducing the issue?

In 8.04 i have to do rmmod saa7134_alsa && rmmod saa7134 && modprobe saa7134 card=3 tuner=69 for tvtime to work, so i'm attaching Xorg.0.log after running this commands.

Also (and i hope this help it) in 8.04 if a open rythmbox and try to run tvtime, i get the very same error message i'm getting now. It's strange because a don't imagine what rhytmbox has to do with video... But i'm not running rhythmbox right now no either any other media program AFAIK

@:Guillaume Giroux

Are you aware of any 'collateral damage' caused by going to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.4?

I really would like to use karmic as my main system, I's stuck with 8.10 because of this bug.

I have the same problem with tvtime at Karmic 9.10 on Intel 852GM and AVerMedia Cardbus TV/Radio E501R. Although, the command

$ mplayer -vo gl tv:// -tv device=/dev/video0

works (for me). At least, I've got a playback screen.

Oh, I use 'gl' instead 'xv' in my comment. So, I tried to use xv, and got error. There is no xv support for i852/855 due bug #395932.

I've add 'nomodeset' to kernel line in the menu.lst (I use GRUB1 yet), and X.org.los says, that

(II) Loading extension XVideo
(II) Loading extension XVideo-MotionCompensation

and

(II) intel(0): Set up overlay video

but

(==) intel(0): Intel XvMC decoder disabled

Anyway, tvtime successfully launched when Ubuntu was booted with 'nomodeset' kernel option

@pjahead:

Thanks, using 'nomedeset' works for me too. I just wonder if this can have others unintended consequences?

Using nomodeset or i915.modeset=0 on a Dell C400 (82830 / i830 chipset) works fine and the xv interface is available again.
It does have the side effect that the boot splash causes a segmentation fault on the console which screws up the font and causes boot delays. Removing splash from the boot line fixes this.

It would be useful if someone could test against a Lucid Beta 2 LiveCD. I think this should have been fixed - we're going to be blacklisting kms on the i830 chipset, and there's a backport of the Xv overlay for UMS in our -intel driver.
