Comment 1 for bug 46269

I have a problem too on Ubuntu 6.06 with Synaptic and Update-manager using a network where a proxy is necessary.

If I start those programs from the menu or in a terminal and Reload to get the updates I get some messages like this :
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/dapper/Release.gpg: Connexion à archive.ubuntu.com: 80 (85.133.25.7) impossible. - connect (111 Connection refused)

However if I start them from a terminal like this :
$ export http_proxy=http://proxy:8080
$ synaptic

I have no Pb whatsover.
