I get a kernel panic while gnome is loading. I see the splash screen, a few apps load, then when nautilus draws the desktop I get a kernel panic. Only happens with fglrx. This has persisted for about 3 months now; I've blogged about it here and a lot of people hit this page, so it might be a fairly common problem:

The workaround is from the CLI to move my wallpapers where nautilus can't find them, so it can't draw my wallpaper when I log in. Then, if I move the wallpapers back and have nautilus draw the desktop, it's fine. There's only a panic when logging in.

I've been using this computer and video card for the longest time on Ubuntu, and even successfully on Dapper, so this problem did not always exist, but was introduced at some point in Dapper development.
