Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

Using banshee 1.5.1~git2260a87-0ubuntu1 in Karmic, it doesn't seem to see my mt-daapd (Firefly) server. i know the server works, as does mdns on the server because my banshee 1.5.0 on jaunty sees it just fine.

I can confirm on a fresh karmic install. I could see a daap share served by tangerine fine on a banshee 1.5 ppa in jaunty, but no love in karmic.

Thankfully it is now possible to add a DAAP server manually.

This is not a duplicate of bug #498697. This bug is about detecting a server, while the other is a about refusing to connect to that server. The workaround (editing smb.conf) does not help either. Please unduplicate.

No. TBH, I dumped banshee quite a while ago and went back to Rhythmbox
due to Banshee's memory greed. I'm not convinced Rhythbox's is terribly
much better, but I doubt it's as bad as Banshee's.

In any case, now with RB crashing every few songs (webkit->libproxy bug)
it never gets a chance to grow overly large. :-/

Just installed 11.04 AMD 64. I cannot see the forked-daapd server on my local machine (127.0.0.1). If I click on the server name that shows in the left panel, it says "Unable to connect". If I load Rhythmbox, it connects and plays the music which is shared. I am running forked-daapd from debian sid (0.16). It shares this to my other laptop running 10.10 and also to the local machine, but only to Rhythmbox.

If more info is needed, let me know.

Looks like the libproxy/webkit bug you mentioned. Is there a bug filed in
Launchpad for this? If not, could you file one please?

Also, I think http://code.google.com/p/libproxy/issues/detail?id=153 is the
relevant upstream bug for that issue.

Shouldn't be per
http://code.google.com/p/libproxy/issues/detail?id=153#c9 (comment #9)
which is the work-around I have implemented here locally and it resolves
the issue with gnome-clock (so as a work-around, it works).

Yup. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libproxy/+bug/547106 and
going on 2 years old now.

It is, and as you can see in that bug, upstream is not going to address
the very old version of libproxy that Ubuntu is still carrying.
