I can confirm this issue with my EeePC 901 and its rt2860 wifi chipset. The screen goes black and there is no possibility to change the VTs or restart X.
But I also noticed that this problem doesn`t occur if I deactivate wireless in gnome-network-manager before I press Fn+F2 to switch off wifi. So maybe we should deactivate the ra0 interface before switching wifi off in the corresponding script.
