after upgrade from 8.10 intrepid to 9.04 jaunty, linksys wireless card doesn't even get power

System = IBM Thinkpad G40, wireless network card = Linksys WPC300N V1 (PCMCIA)
Wiped and installed brand-new 8.10 intrepid on this laptop, everything worked great first time without issue, recognized and able to use wireless network card out of the box with no problems.
Did upgrade to 9.04 jaunty yesterday, now my wireless card doesn't even get power.

I went to System-
Wireless card started working again, and I now have wireless network connectivity.
HOWEVER, an attempt to suspend the system caused the original problem to come back, and Deactivating/
After a reboot, I did NOT have to Deactivate/
But after any attempt to Suspend, the Suspend fails (I think this is a known issue), and the card is deactivated, but even an attempt to Deactivate/
