Thank you for looking over the bug report. I made the guess that my
equipment might have been too old for the drivers in the updates of Ubuntu
8.10, so I reloaded Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and the wireless is working.
The Dell Inspiron is seven years old, and the Linksys Instant Wireless PC
card is a five year old 11 Mbps version. The driver that was initially
running it might have been replaced during the update.
Since I reloaded my system there is no way for me to collect additional
information. I would suggest using 8.04 if anyone else has a similar
problem.
