Potentially fixed for me.
Upgraded to latest kernel 2.6.27-11-generic
Tried to install Latest Nvidia 180.22 but had hassles with kernel module so I removed using the nvidia install script
re-installed nvidia-glx-180 and nvidia-glx-180-dev
Also installed latest Xserver from repositories. (not the Hardy version, but Intrepid)
commented out Load "glx" from xorg.conf
No hanging, no crashes. Yet to try it with GLX turned on. However, I was having random freezes during gaming sessions with sauerbraten and warzone 2100, I can now play full screen (xinerama, 3 screens) with no hangs / freezes.
Will try with GLX extension turned on when I get a chance.
