I also had a segfault when running tlip2. It ran for about 10 seconds, closed, and in a terminal window, I found an error saying segmentation fault. I checked kern.log and found this:
Jan 11 18:05:36 Ubuntu-laptop kernel: [30493.560717] tilp[18899]: segfault at 0 ip b7488d28 sp bfb56f4c error 4 in libc-2.
running i386 ubuntu 8.10 with kernel 2.6 due to compat issues.
