628x369 is the smallest I can make Synaptic on my system. At that point, the package description section cannot be made any smaller than 450x175. This leaves enough space to view 1.5 rows of packages at a time in the package list. If you suppose that there is no panel so the Synaptic window can be the full 800x480, 5 rows of packages at most can be visible at a time. It seems to me that the solution would be to implement bug#71314

I'm raising priority because of the increasing number of netbook users.

It's not only Synaptic that's affected. I had trouble using thoggen because of the same problem.

How about a scrollable desktop? So that the two virtual desktops are stacked one above the other and one can sort of click and drag the bare desktop (avoiding any objects/files) and scroll?

Thanks.

@ichhaankur: Please open a new bug for thoggen. Creating a scrollable desktop doesn't make sence in my opinion since synaptic is slowly being replaced by software-center.

You can often use something like xrandr ("randr" is the mode fix/change). I have scripts to enable big/scroll and to undo it, but this needs to be fixed. There should be some minimum size - 800x576, or even 640x480.
