Bug Description

Last night, early in the morning(July 29 around 00:20, the wholesystem crashed and I had to push the restart button on the desktop. I had just finished building a kernel for gentoo in VM workstation pro. I just tried to close google chrome on my main ubuntu desktop, computer froze. This morning at cli, typed journalctl -p error, and it's saying bunch of stuff about cpu being stuck.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
    journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
    journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
    ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself.

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

Hi Daniel,
Instruction 1 - I ran the commands on ins 1 and attached the text files.
Instruction 2 - I do not see a whoopsie relating to July 29th crash freeze.
[image: Screenshot from 2024-07-30 23-19-06.png]
Instruction 3 - the link you have provided has no errors reported.

Hope these help.
Thank you in advance for your support.

I should note you have at least two separate crashes:

July 26 10:07: _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash
July 29: This bug as you reported it

Unfortunately the attached logs don't cover those time periods because the machine rebooted. See if you can find the older log data using journalctl.
