I have solved the problem with brave-browser version update using following instructions (https://brave.com/linux/). It seeems that one of the previous distro upgrades disabled brave browser package repository and this resulted in outdated brave browser that caused the problem.
Steps to upgrade brave browser:
sudo apt install apt-transport-https curl
