Bug Description

The problem is produced after using the "Suspend" function the laptop shuts off normally, upon resuming, the screen remains black and the computer is completely unresponsive. The only way to regain control of the computer is via hard reset. The hibernation function also fails, as the computer never shuts off. The screen goes blank and power remains on with the only way of regaining control being a hard reset

Prior research has shown this to be an issue surrounding the Radeon 200M chipset and KMS/DRI.

Prior research has also shown that others in the past have been able to resolve this issue by inserting a quirk into the "radeon_combios.c" file with the correct subsystem vendor and subsystem_device information . Such as https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-devel/2010-July/002333.html

Reading the "radeon_combios.c" file shows quirks added for other Radeon 200M laptops, but none of them match with my "subsystem_device=309b" as shown by lspci-vnn. This presumably excludes my computer from using the fix.

However, I am very new to Linux and I am very unfamiliar with the process of successful Kernel editing and compiling.

Adding "nomodeset noapic nolapic" to grub restores the Hibernate function but all 3D acceleration is lost, and the screen resolution becomes locked to 1024*768

I have tested and found this bug present in Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64-bit and Linux Mint 17.3 Xfce 32-bit
