Bug Description

When booting from the gutsy livecd tribe 5 on my inspiron 1501, it goes through to a blank orange screen with an arrow cursor in the center and completely locks up.

Safe graphics mode leaves me with a blank screen -- can get to terminal, startx returns to blank screen (no obvious errors in startx output.)

The only error in dmesg that I can see is bcm43xx: Error: Microcode "bcm43xx_microcode5.fw" not available of load failed (this error continues to happen about every 20sec or so.)

I'm quite willing to debug this, but would need some hand-holding to do so.

I'm also using a Dell Inspiron 1501 (AMD Turion 64x2) and have gotten the same problem.

X seems to load fine, a brown screen appears, and then it waits. Occasionally, it will drop out to a black screen and flash some errors before repeating the process again. I'll try to reproduce and write the errors down by hand, but they flash by quickly.

There are three lines of SQUASHFS Errors and a mention of "Exporter.pm did not return a true value" (I wasn't able to get the path followed).

I'll try to get the rest of the error output. Let me know if there is anything else I could do to help pin this down.

Well, after multiple reboots from the Gutsy Tribe 5 live CD I am experiencing the same issue each time except that the error output has not been reproduced. So I'm not sure if it was related or not.

I then attempted using the daily build (found here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20070921/) to see if there was any difference. Running the daily build, I get all the way to the GDM login, but then after logging in the same behavior occurs. It just hangs on the brown screen.

Again, if there is any thing I can do to help debug this, let me know.

Same for probleme for me : After a correct boot, I have the Gnome Wallpaper and sometime and exactly like andrewsomething : X seems to load fine, the Gnome wallpaper appears, and then it waits. Occasionally, it will drop out to a black screen and flash some errors before repeating the process again. This is impossible to make a ctrl+alt+fx to see logs or others errors.
