Bug Description

After updating to kernel 2.6.22-10 gnome-desktop won't load anymore.

When I log into gdm the desktop tries to load and then crashes back to gdm, I get to see the panels up and down for a couple of seconds, but then the screen goes blank and throws me back into gdm.

Tiny red bars show when I press the power button and work like a progress bar of sorts while shutting down.

This is an AMD Turion 64 X2 based laptop and the model is Dell Inspiron 1501.

Thanks in advance.

Pedro,

This is still an issue on a fully updated Gutsy, as of the time of this posting I still have to use xorg-driver-fglrx to get an usable desktop.

So it looks in my case X is still not bullet proof.

Package: xorg
State: installed
Automatically installed: yes
Version: 1:7.2-5ubuntu8

Please let me know anything you might need to try to get this resolved.

Regards,
Alex

This still breaks with newest x.org in case it is the real culprit.

I don't exactly know what fixed this, but it now works.
