Currently the app is not fully open source although version 0.14 (the current release is 0.13) is slated as the transition to 1.0 and will be packaged as a release with full support for building from source.
I'd offer a 'strong recommend' for including Haroopad once the open source release process is completed, though, having explored all the other options I could find (including proprietary editors), it's the best mix of features (colour contrasting code highlighting, realtime preview, PDF export) that I've seen in a markdown editor. It has an active maintainer and a prospect of even more features as development continues.
