Can only copy a few files at a time over the network

Bug Description

Lubuntu 12.10
I can copy individual files & very small groups of files across network using file manager on Lubuntu 12.10.
But if I select a larger group of files, only a few are copied, and the progress dialog "Copying files" remains on screen, progress bar is usually blank. The "cancel" button does not close the dialog, only the "X".

This is not a PCManFM problem, as others have the same issue with Nautilus: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2089805

Simple Test conditions:-
* create 6 blank test files on a remote share (have tried Lubuntu 11.04 & 12.10)
* on target machine (Lubuntu 12.10) copy 3 of these test files from remote machine...success!
* Now try copying all 6 test files....failure!

Reverse test:-
* from a non-12.10 machine (e.g. 11.04) send 6 test files to target machine (12.10)....success!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1085394/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Similar issues as reported by Steve (on Lubuntu)

Affects one PC I built using Llubuntu 12.10, but not another.

Not sure which source package this should be filed against, since this issue happens even when copying from the terminal

The newly built PC is also affected by this issue, although it tends to manage to copy 20 or so files before freezing rather than half a dozen or so on the first PC I tried this on. Has no one else seen this issue?

Scenario, 2 Linux PC's, Samba shares between them. Open PCFman on host PC (Lubuntu 12.10). Open second PCFman and <Go Network> to 10.04 PC, and drag a folder having many files (a few hundred photos for example). Seems to freeze at a few % everytime.

This ALSO happens if using cp in terminal

I need this fixed, asap,. please! I just installed on a 2009 Mac Mini, with a core 2 duo processor, SSD, and 8 GB ram. I am delighted with Ubuntu in all respects except that any large copy from Windows stops after a short while.

Copying files from a windows box to a xbmcbuntu box or same box with straight Ubuntu 12.10 (dual boot) behaviour is that some files copy, then a file is created with 0 bytes and the process stalls. Cannot stop the file operation - pressing the red button results in it going grey but not going away.

Deleting the 0 byte file and recopying works for a few more files then it stalls again.

Currently, it is only happening on starting a new file - that is, one or more files are copied, then it stalls.

Same here. PCManFM freezes while trying to copy a couple of files from a Samba share on a Lubuntu 13.04 machine to another Lubuntu 13.04 machine.
