Personally I never had this problem. I asked around on irc, and in addition to dpm's and om26ers replies above, I got:

< ahayzen> t1mp, i initially found that the back/tab button area was too far left, but once i knew it was further across than i thought i don't miss it often now
So it is not a big problem for everybody. I will see if I can easily increase the size of the touch area. If that is not enough we maybe need some user testing and a change in design?
