Bug Description

Ubuntu 11.10 beta

1. Start a session in Simplified Chinese.
2. In Ubuntu Software Center, choose to install or remove something.

What happens: The prompt says "[Invalid UTF-8]".
What should happen: The prompt says whatever is the Chinese for "To install or remove software, you need to authenticate."

According to the reporter of bug 874755, the problem also occurs with Brazilian Portuguese (LANGUAGE=pt_BR:en).

Try:

1. Edit /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local

      Add (or not):

      pt_BR UTF-8

2. Edit /etc/default/locale:

      Add (or change):

      LANG="pt_BR.UTF-8"

3. Execute:

     sudo locale-gen -purge

     and

     sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

Restart... and done!

In my Desktop.. everything Ok, after this modifications!

I don't know if this is related but during the installation of ubuntu 11.10 (32bits) I saw the following message:
locale.setlocale failed: unsupported locale setting (LANG=pt_BR)
