indicator-datetime: calendar "[Invalid UTF-8]" (encoding problem)

Firstly, must say that I totally guess that this is the problematic package.

I'm Brazilian, so I'm using the PT-br version. I didn't notice this before today, so I'm not sure if it was caused by some update or what.

I usually use the datetime indicator with full time (hh:mm:ss) and date (weekday, month, date). Surprisingly, now it's showing the texts as you can see on the screenshot I'm sending together, and it's obviously wrong.

At the bar, where should be the current date-time as I said I configured for, it's "[Invalid UTF-8]". I did some testing and found out that it's weekday fault (now it's Saturday, or "Sábado" with a acuted in Portuguese).

Above the calendar, there's a "Label Empty". I don't know what should be there.

And inside the calendar, on Saturday column it can be read "(null)".

As a programmer, I think it's not a simple translation fault, so I did this report.

Forgot to mention that inside the calendar, the last column "(null)" must be "Sáb", from "Sábado" (Saturday in Portuguese).

I alread have this problem.
I noticed in Users configuration tool that Ubuntu 11.10 is using iso8859-1 as default encoding for pt_BR locale.
I fixed the "Invalid UTF-8" problem changing the encoding by adding:

LANG="pt_BR.UTF-8"
LANGUAGE="pt_BR.UTF-8:pt:en"
LC_ALL="pt_BR.UTF-8"

in /etc/environment.

I would like to know if there is a way to change/install the locale pt_BR.UTF-8 using the graphic interface.

Just realized: just booted Ubuntu and went to update-manager to update packages, if any. There were some: checked them all and clicked install.

When Ubuntu asked my password, above the text field was "[Invalid UTF-8]".

I wonder if this problem isn't system-wide...

Try:

1. Edit /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local

      Add (or not):

      pt_BR UTF-8

2. Edit /etc/default/locale:

      Add (or change):

      LANG="pt_BR.UTF-8"

3. Execute:

     sudo locale-gen -purge

     and

     sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

Restart... and done!

In my Desktop.. everything Ok!

Comigo aconteceu agora, quando atualizei hoje e só voltou a funcionar normalmente, quando fiz esses procedimentos abaixo:

1) Pressione: Ctrl+Alt+T
2) Digite: sudo gedit /etc/environment
3) Copie e cole essas linhas:

   LANG="pt_BR.UTF-8"
   LANGUAGE="pt_BR.UTF-8:pt:en"
   LC_ALL="pt_BR.UTF-8"

4) Salve o documento e reinicie seu computador e pronto, ir-lhe-à funcionar redondo novamente.

Happened to me now, when upgraded today and only returned to work normally, when I made these the following:

1) Press: Ctrl + Alt + T
2) Type: sudo gedit / etc / environment
3) Copy and paste these lines:

   LANGUAGE="pt_BR.UTF-8:pt:en"
   LC_ALL="pt_BR.UTF-8"

4) Save the document and restart your computer and presto, you go to work round again.

I use the English language (en_US.UTF-8) and tried the above solution (reproduce below) and it did not work. I am using the baseline as of 01/24/2012 (fully updated).

sudo locale-gen -purge
sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales
Reboot and log-in.

Still get [Invalid UTF-8]
