Bug Description

In Natty's unity-2d (Version: 3.8.2-0ubuntu1), there is inconsistency between wording of indicator-appmenu, indicator-session (System settings) and window frame (Control Center). I belive these origin from gnome-control-center-2.0 which has 667. as "Control Center" and 681. "System Settings".

In current form it's difficult for user to understand that indicator-appmenu's (System Settings) controls belong to active window (Control Center).

Actually this probably shouldn't be against gnome-control-center because I recall I've seen this affecting some other apps, too. Should probably be against indicator-appmenu. Feel free to correct "also affects".

Hey there everyone! I'm new to Ubuntu development and I'd like to take a stab at fixing some low priority bugs such as this one. I'm not exactly sure what the defect description is referring too. Perhaps if someone could give me a "defect procedure" so that I can see what is under discussion. It sounds like some changing of wording might be sufficient. If I'm off base with that the please point it out.

Thanks everyone.

@wesley: welcome on board :)
The problem is, when you select the System Settings item in the indicator-session menu (the one you use for switching user or turn off the machine), the gnome-control-center will start up and its window title will say Control Center. At the same time, indicator-appmenu (the one that holds normally the application menus on the top panel) will say System Settings. This is indeed confusing.

If we want to change this, the string comes from here:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/natty/gnome-control-center/natty/view/head:/shell/control-center.c#L185
An other occurrence is changed in bug #733234 by this patch:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/natty/gnome-control-center/natty/view/head:/debian/patches/54_ubuntu_rename_shell.patch

On the other hand, time looks like solving this - gnome-control-center 3 refers to itself in the window title as System Settings in Oneiric.

Not a translation problem, though.

@Gabor Kelemen: Thanks for the explanation, I see it now! So I suppose there is already a fix on the way is what you're saying about Oneiric?

Can I ask though, I know this is slightly off topic, how would I have found what branch to find that specific code in? I'm sure it's partly because of my unfamiliarity, but that's a long string of branch info to know off the top of your head. Is there a resource somewhere that specifies all that or allows me to search through stuff? The only thing I found in the "beginner's articles" says something like this:

" If you know which source package contains the code that shows the problem, it’s trivial. Just type in:
bzr branch lp:ubuntu/<packagename> "

Thanks! Hopefully I can get a mentor or something soon to direct these questions to!

@Wesley: you can get an overview of a given package at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/<packageName>, for example: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center. From there, click on the "Code" section to get a list of branches and the series they are related to.
Regarding mentoring, you can probably find help on this kind of questions on #ubuntu-devel on IRC (freenode).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Oneiric Ocelot.

If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please follow the instructions for "How to request new packages" at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports#request-new-packages
