What they are worried about is that introducing a change this late may have the side-effect of causing an unexpected regression. In this particular case I think they are worrying unnecessarily but they are following their standard practice which they have followed in previous releases. Also, I'm not a software developer.

I wish this was fixed for the release too, but history tells me it won't happen.
