Jani's pastebin as well as looking at David's pulse config files for the Nexus got me on the right track to getting audio working without suspending, as this afternoon I have managed to get audio working using pure ALSA and no pulseaudio, from a fresh init of the mixer, i.e no saved state from either ALSA or pulse.

i am pretty sure this bug is purely to do with something in userspace, but I am yet to determine what, and where.

I'll continue pursuing this on Monday, and feel I could have a fix by EOD Monday or early next week given what I've already discovered.
