The problem seems to go away if we build in the INTEL_HDA_TEGRA support (just like Android and we had it originally).
I'll send a patch to the kernel team.
The consequence is HDA - even if unused on this board - will be card0 and the Realtek codec will be card1 so some ALSA configs files may need to change if they assume a single card.
