Bug Description

1st did terminal sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop ; I failed to select kde or gdm [then could not config kde as preferred.] Boots as kubuntu but goes to a blank dark blue page & opens slowly as standard Ubuntu not kubuntu though I did follow sudo. Just failed to select kde or gdm b 4 sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop; then, sudo apt-get auto remove
2nd did terminal ppa to get Firefox 6 Beta following command : a) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next b) sudo apt-get update c) sudo apt-get install firefox But this did not get past the bug picked up upgrading from ff 3.6 to ff 5.0 then to ff 6.0 beta and/or beta 3
3rd did terminal to get latest update of KDE 4.7.0; a) sudo apt-add-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports b) sudo apt-get update c) sudo apt-get upgrade. But this did not relieve FF failure to boot up with a bar for the URL to be inserted present

Finally, something has solved a bit of the slow performance; I learned that Control C will bring up a way to open a URL but that's not a neat solution. Thanks to reading launchpad I learned from you hard workers the latter solution minutes ago. I sweated three + weeks. Big question is whether this is a FF bug or something I created with the Kubuntu PPAs. holler at koymkg at gmail.com

I encountered that no url bar existed on both my FF on kubuntu 11.04amd64 bit and on my FF on kubuntu 10.04.02amd64 bit PCs. Though the FF on kubuntu 10.04.02 amd64 bit has an X run per day, it has not slowed in performance like the 11.04amd64 bit PC.

Toz found that I had cropped in a typo "kernal" instead of "kernel" when I was amidst building kubuntu 11.04amd64 bit. Admitted, I never could remove or reconfigure that to get the wrong input out of the repositories. An effort to remove the two lines and save as given below: Make the correction and the update should work again.  The entry in the /etc/apt/sources.list file. I did a terminal Code: gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list ,,,, I think I did a delete the line(s) where kernel is mispelled, then save the file. ... but I did not go to the Software Sources menu item, go to the Other Software tab, and uncheck the entry that is mispelled.

is it best that I uninstall and do a new install 5.0.1? Am not able to get this Beta working up to par.
