The original patchset[1] that contained upstream commitd 7db7775ea2e ("net: veth: do not manipulate GRO when using XDP") also had the commit to adjust the corresponding selftest, but it seems like it was not backported to upstream stable kernels. It may be worth checking if that commit fixes this issue here and, if so, if it should have been backported too.
