Does it fail if you change /bin/sh to point to bash instead of dash?
I know some ftrace tests failed because of how 'echo' would behave differently between those two shells, and that using printf would be better, and that Seth has already sent a patch for that upstream.
I recall this test being the one that failed, but may be misremembering.
