Bug Description

When two square brackets are placed together (opening and closing like that "[]") there is no space between them and the result looks like the missing character symbol/placeholder.

This can be confusing, so I think a small space should be added between them - even a single pixel would do, if possible.

I am a little bit confused. This should be a duplicate of Bug #671228, where the last entry says “fix released” as of v0.70 of the Ubuntu Font Family.

Even though (I am quite sure that) I installed v0.70.1 from the my by the PPA Ubuntu Font Family Interest Group (package version 0.1.10~ppa1), I still can confirm this bug: The combination [] still looks like a box in the UbuntuBeta Font, independent from the font rendering settings (Hinting, Antialiasing) or the font size.

Is there something wrong with my font installation or is it rather a more general problem, as this new bug report indicates? Leonidas, which version of the Font Family do you use and which font rendering settings? How did you install the font family on your system? Is this a problem in the monospaced font, too?

adoa: Yes, this was fixed in Ubuntu=0.70.

Please can you post a screenshot with the string "[]<>{}()" so that we can see which version is actually getting rendered. Have you manually installed some old .ttfs in ~/.fonts? If so, please only use the versions out of the PPAs so that these can be automatically updated.

First of all, sorry for reporting a duplicate. I didn't find it in my search for "[" and "square brackets" for some reason.

I am using version 0.70.1 from Arch linux AUR and I still see it in Eclipse.
Anyways I will continue my comments under Bug #671228.
