[1 new] Mono: U+25AA SMALL BLACK BULLET

I'm trying to use the following in my PS1 shell prompt. It looks nice in other fonts but with ubuntu monospace the box isn't vertically centered. It is a bit lower than expected.

This is because U+25AA SMALL BLACK BULLET is not in Ubuntu Mono, so it is substituted from a different font.

U+25AA SMALL BLACK BULLET ('▪') is not in Ubuntu Mono, so is being substituted from another font. Long term we can look at adding it, but that probably doesn't help with your immediate issue.

Ahh, interesting. How can i figure out what font is being used for substitution and possibly change it?

There are probably better ways, but I usually:

  1. Load 'gucharmap'
  2. Select the font ("Ubuntu Mono" in this case)
  3. Search (Ctrl+F) for the character itself ('▪')
  4. Right click-and-hold over the character

This will show the name of the font that is actually being displayed for that character, rather than what is selected. This is likely to be one of the wide-coverage fonts, such as DejaVu *.
