If that is the consensus opinion, for automatic user access then fair enough but:
"If I could have an automatic login for root, that would be preferrable."
We are asking for a totally unprotected and open system with full access rights. Default super user access is the primary reason that there are huge numbers of Windows XP vulnerabilities, attacks and zombie machines.
