It is strange that it works fine in BIOS mode but needs nomodeset in UEFI mode. Something must fail to get activated in UEFI mode.

There are obvious problems with Ubuntu Groovy in this computer. Please specify the details about it: Brand name and model of the computer itself as well as of the graphics card/chip.
