Our current hypothesis is that something in gnome-power-manager is borked and causes the system to suspend upon battery power, no matter how much energy the battery has left.

What happens in the following scenario:

1) System supends when AC is disconnected
2) reconnect AC
3) kill gnome-power-manager (probably ctrl-alt-backspace)
4) disconnect AC
