on 13.04 gst-launch-0.10 playbin2 uri=file:///path/to/file.whatever video-sink=vaapisink works again for mkvs and h.264

but the same line does not work for avi mpeg4 part2 (xvid)
and i dont know what to put as videosink in gstreamer-properties to use it as default for totem
