Bug Description

Currently the icons look sloppy. All icons (actionbar, menu, ...) should be either android standard or available as svg graphics and rendered as drawables in ldpi, mdpi and hdpi. The design must be consitent with the Android styleguides and the overall Tomdroid UI (which is evolving).

For a little bit of background:

Icons for the currently released versions are grey-scaled Tango icons (http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Library), I've included the source SVG in the bzr tree (in data/icon-src/). When I created these only one resolution existed and I generated a png sized at what I've found most were using at the time. There were no official android ui guidelines for icons yet at that time.

I would like to stick with Tango icons since they did a lot of thinking about UI metaphors, user-experience type of work, etc. However, as Rodja noted, times have changed and we should try to have nicer resolution-independent icons.

If anyone is interested, you have the SVGs in data/icon-src/ and the guidelines on developer.android.com. This would be an easy first contribution!

I would be interested in creating some new icons for this

That sounds great. Please start a branch and go for it. We can then later merge your changes into master.

I saw icon changes in the changelogs, is this fixed?

By no means is this bug fixed. Only the Tomdroid icon got some minor improvements by Matthew Stevenson's work in the freshen-ui branch.

For a start we need a list of icons and ui elements which should get some love. I suggest:

 1. Sync Icon in Actionbar
 2. Actionbar background (should have a gradient to be consitent with other Actionbars)
 3. Use Android's default About Menu Icon, not the Tango one
 4. Make a professionall App Icon which follows the Android UI guidelines

Anything else?

Thanks for the update Rodja. Removing target milestone 0.4.

As noted in #549643:

   5. sync icon not intuitvely understand as "button"
The action bar "design pattern" from Google is very new. After your objection I looked
closer to the Twitter App. They are using 1px vertical lines to frame each button in the
          action bar.

Hi!
I try to take care of this five points for the beginning. I made a new branch called cleanup_icons.

Changed in tomdroid:
assignee: nobody → jango (j-4)

Fixed all five points in my branch "cleanup_icons".
Please review it and also tell me if you think the app-icon or the color-gradient should look somehow different.
I tried to fulfil all android guidelines (view from top, size, boarders, drop shadow, ...) and I think it fits quite good to other android launcher icons, but everybody has different imaginations of beautiful.
It is my first active contribution to an project, so please be patient - but it was a lot of fun and I would love to help you again!
