Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

One of the best features of KMail is that after checking mail, a message REMAINS in the status bar saying a time (and date), and that there are no new messages. It lets you see that mail checking is going on in the background. Howerver, in Thunderbird, the status message flickers very briefly (often too quickly to read), and then disappears.

This is something that has been constant in Thunderbird over the last few releases that I've used.

I can confirm this. Same behaviour using 'thunderbird 2.0.0.19+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1'. Would be a nice feature, even if one would have to enable it explicitly. Now, maybe this should be forwarded to upstream?

Please file this bug upstream as this would require an upstream feature.

There was a bug filed in the Ubuntu launchpad, which was classified as a feature request. Therefor, we're reporting it here so the Mozilla Thunderbird developers recognize it:

One of the best features of KMail is that after checking mail, a message REMAINS in the status bar saying a time (and date), and that there are no new messages. It lets you see that mail checking is going on in the background. Howerver, in Thunderbird, the status message flickers very briefly (often too quickly to read), and then disappears.

This is something that has been constant in Thunderbird over the last few releases that I've used.

Also see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/279364

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Check you mail using thunderbird

Actual Results:
The statusbar shows what Thunderbird does for a very short time, then the message disappears.

Expected Results:
Leave a message in the status bar, which shows when the mails were checked.

Would be good if it at least was shown in the activity manager... I assume the interactive status bar plans might fix this, though I'm not sure about the details.
