vte-0.40 (part of gnome-3.16) was just released.
API-wise the only big change is that the word-chars feature, which was removed from 0.38 (and hence from Terminator by my patch) is back; Terminator should bring it back too.
Internally the biggest change is that the scrollback buffers contents used to be written on the disk as plaintext. It's now compressed and encrypted. For anyone worrying about privacy and not having an encrypted /tmp, it's definitely something worth upgrading for!
