In our system, when you sign up for the list, you have to answer some questions. We refer to this as "the essay". (if you want to try this go to www.systers.org/mailman/listinfo/systers As your essay put "Testing, please delete". Feel free to submit it. ) This is saved for the admins to approve the person (in the mailman pickle files), but is not saved afterwards. We have a second database that has dlist (dynamic sublist) specific info.

It would be very useful to have these essays saved -- there are times when the admins need to look back at what someone said in her essay, and there are some "wild ideas" we have about making essays available to people already on the list. Oh, and sometimes people are rejected for an imcomplete essay, so we would want to save essays of rejected subscribers, as they often seem to assume they don't need to duplicate what they said already.

The essay needs to be saved and associated with the user. There needs to be a way to find a specific person's essay or to find a set of essays (submitted since date x, for example). The latter needs to be done via the web interface.
