Tracker plugin request

It would be wonderful to have a Tracker plugin, so that you could search not just for file names, but file content. I'm not quite sure how it would work when implemented though - would files with relevant content be displayed right away along with the standard filename-only search results? Or perhaps just in a separate category for Tracker content?

I also think synapse's search could be enhanced with tracker.
Maybe a solution would be to show the results separatedely? Zeitgeist's could go under «Recent Items», and tracker under normal search results. If both results appear in the same menu (say you run a dropdown menu in Synapse with a "tracker + recent items" menu) the desired one could be expanded (hiding the other) by hitting a key on that area (say, pressing space over a «Recent Item» would hide tracker's results, and viceversa.

Tracker Plugin is too complex to implement right now.
But you will find a locate plugin to search files that are not indexed by ZG.

Some food for thought (again, see #1):

After some thought, I don't really see the point of a full tracker integration, given that most of the times (unless the search is very specific) it could deliver way too many results through Synapse's interface (metadata tags, text content...). The locate plugin is also very very helpful, integrates nicely, and covers the vast majority of search needs.

What about a «search with tracker-needle» plugin? You could just write the string, and select «search with tracker» with tab key, or go to actions and see the «search with tracker-needle». Actually, if you run «tracker-needle <search-string>» from synapse, the app opens running the required search right away. (BTW, tracker-search-tool is now obsolete. tracker-needle is the future, included since tracker 0.10, I think.) No need to see the results in Synapse.

All in all, I would just like synapse to run tracker-needle with a search string without having to write «tracker-needle» in front of every search string I'm interested... And nothing else :) (if possible, search with an already existing tracker window, to avoid running more than one tracker-needle.)

I don't see now a need for integration with tracker, just that «search w tracker-needle», as in «search w google».

I still think that having tracker integrated in some way would be great and save a lot of time (especially since tracker-search-tool is pretty bad, though I have yet to try needle). Generally when I use tracker I'm searching for some very specific words in my many, many documents (mostly .odt and pdf articles), something that locate, Zeitgeist, etc. just can't do. I actually tend to only get a few results then, but maybe I don't represent a usual case.

Of course, there's still the problem of interface, and even more so the priority and difficulty of implementation, as mentioned by Alberto, so maybe Omar's suggestion might be a nice temporary compromise. Regardless, thanks to the developers for all the work that has been done so far!

A "search with tracker" action would definitely be a consistent solution, as:
- "Search with Google" action works the same way
- "Locate" action works the same way

Moreover, launching a tracker search on every keystroke in Synapse would laaargely increase CPU usage. Also, I don't think the search results should be displayed in Synapse's window, as we would miss tracker-needle's filtering capabilities (audio, video, documents) on large amount of results.
