Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

I also have this exact bug.

What happens is the user chooses logoff
before going back to gdm two pop-ups appear (not every time)
ICE socket could not be created
then you click the two dialogs away
gdm starts
you try to log back into the same user session
you get a blank purple page and you can move the mouse around (no desktop at all)

You have to do a cold restart of the machine in order to get the desktop to work again!

this is actually quite serious as end users are having to do the 4 second power button restart in order to get their computer working again.

See my last comment in the bug. This is a serious bug that causes end users to have to physcially restart the machine before they can use their computer again.

Sorry that nobody had time to look at this bug report before the Ubuntu version expired. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since then, and the bug may have been fixed. If you still have the problem with a current version of Ubuntu, please reopen the report.
