You could arguably say that serial grub is a good idea everywhere. For one thing, there's some chance of letting people using braille displays drive the boot menu. Modems probably won't care about it too much, since the output would look nothing like AT commands (and the set of modem users is pretty limited).

Also, given the decisions made at install-time, we can pick whether or not we should add "console=ttS0" on the installed system's commandline.
