I have also confirmed that the date tag is not transferred for other conversion types as well, not just flac-to-mp3, but any source media I tried to mp3 conversion.

Soundconverter 2.9.0-beta1 (from repos)
Xubuntu Xenial 16.04.1

Is a release for this fix on the horizon? I used to use soundconverter quite a lot for doing flac-mp3 conversions, but this current release is really garbling up the tags (it's not just the year tag). So currently I can choose between not using soundconverter or doing a big round of tag corrections afterwards.
