I don't see much benefit in adding such complexity as various distributions already override our defaults with custom '-M exec' scripts (Debian/Ubuntu: smartd-runner, Fedora/RedHat: smartdnotify, ...)

I added two (now tested:-) wrappers for sendmail to upstream examplescripts directory:
