A new mirror channel type (mirrorlist) might be able to solve this problem. As
it is a native Smart channel it integrates well with how Smart likes to do
things.

I have tested this on Fedora 8 and it works well. If more feedback is received
this might get into upstream pretty soon as it is sorely needed.
