Bug Description

When I take a screenshot, I want it to prompts me for text and/or auto adds text, and places it above/below/wherever on the image I want it.

This will allow me to take a screenshot and then label it either by typing in a description, and/or automatically adding the date, time, or other program/system information. This way, when I'm referring back to a screenshot I've already added documentation so I know what it was about (best used for recording bug reports and test results)

I suppose this could be created by exposing the edit functions to a scripting language, should you allow me to add/edit scripts to a profile and execute them upon taking a screenshot.

So you'd like to be able to have 'notes' on a particular screenshot, ala on files you can have in nautilus?

Thank you for all the reports by the way, the use cases are quite helpful.

I attached a sample image of what I was originally thinking. Text manually/automatically added to the top of the picture. This makes is visible to others when I paste that into a test plan (an open office writer doc) or attach it into a bug tracker (like here).

Although adding notes like Nautilus (didn't know about that) is a great idea too. Would allow indexing and searching on it without using OCR. It would allow me to add more detailed comments to screenshots I take in unstructured testing. I like this for having better structured data, I would be concerned though that it isn't available when attaching it into a bug tracker (especially on the web) [unless it was stored in EXIF or some other embedded data]

I guess a combination of both would be cool ;-) [although I worry about over engineering]

[in terms of adding Nautilus style notes in a streamlined fashion - I could see two approaches
1) a discreet button in the lower left that has notes with a double down arrow - that when clicked expands the size of the main screen [downward] to show notes and tags
2) or a paperclip on the tab or corner of the screen that opens a separate notes dialog. Possibly better for small screens but means more screens [I prefer the former]
