I attached a sample image of what I was originally thinking. Text manually/automatically added to the top of the picture. This makes is visible to others when I paste that into a test plan (an open office writer doc) or attach it into a bug tracker (like here).
Although adding notes like Nautilus (didn't know about that) is a great idea too. Would allow indexing and searching on it without using OCR. It would allow me to add more detailed comments to screenshots I take in unstructured testing. I like this for having better structured data, I would be concerned though that it isn't available when attaching it into a bug tracker (especially on the web) [unless it was stored in EXIF or some other embedded data]
I guess a combination of both would be cool ;-) [although I worry about over engineering]
