https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/index.html

>> <C-f> to find anything related to the key word samba

Samba and LDAP

Download full text (3.5 KiB)

just to show you how it is confusing the 12.04 doc vs 10.04

my students do prefer this toc, with indexed hierarchy:

in place of this flat enumeration

best regards,

The change is a side effect of the "New" theme (the one with the red background).
I don't like it either.

Peter: I'll set the status to "confirmed". I looked into it a little before and got lost. I think it would be quite difficult, but it would be great to get an opinion from Matthew East for this one.

castet02: Thanks for your suggestion. However, the master source files for the serverguide are docbook .xml files. Those get compiled into html and pdf. It is the compile routines that were changed for the "new" theme, and are what we would be wanting to look at to try to restore the "old" theme TOC stuff.

I agree the current guide's layout can be improved. There is no published outline; finding stuff is like going down rabbit holes.

The search facility does not specifically search the Server Guide. It is part of the header and is thus applied across all help.ubuntu.com sites.

I will try to find some help to improve both points.
