We're not clear on what these two instances are? Two separate installs of Ubuntu, with two completely separate SchoolTools? What do you mean by "sharing the the same blobs and data.fs?"

What is the purpose of this?

In general, if someone has a messed up Ubuntu install (and this seems to be one of those cases, perhaps), it is easiest to just back up the Data.fs and blobs directory and reinstall from scratch.
