Inability of direct IP connecting to play on large maps

Bug Description
Hi!
When I'm trying to connect to my brother's server using direct IP connection, I receive either an error "Connection to host closed", or "Connection failed". Our connection is rather slow but the thing is that we can play only on small maps (as 48x48). In this case, the error doesn't appear and the game works well. On large maps I receive the above-mentioned errors. What is more, this problem extists in different versions of the game, starting with stable version and finishing with last nightly builds.
Our idea was that it was due to the little timeout, but in version 9557 it was set to 2 minutes and the problem still appears in game.
The errors are like this:
recv: block-waiting: not enough input (326/519) for message (0x0303), waiting for next try

Receiving Message from server failed
