So its not limited to systems with "low" memory. I'm curious as to why I'm not seeing this (except with lower available memory), when upping the cache size I did much of the testing on a laptop with 2Gb memory and was seeing definite improvements with the larger cache.

At this point better its quite obviously best to just back the cache size down to the previous value that is working so much better for others, at least until the issue is better understood.
